dia de los muertos

dia de los muertos

One of my favorite events that OU host’s in the OU Day of the Dead Street Festival in the parking lot of Lloyd Noble. This event is so fun and packed with a variety of things to see and do: from food trucks to live artwork shows to musical performances. I love inviting friends to this because it’s such a fun, joy-filled environment where students and families all come to visit the different booths, hop on the fun rides, and…

Today I went to the ASEAN – Association of Southeast Asian Nations – food fair held in Reaves Park. This event is free and allows for students to come enjoy authentic Southeast Asian cuisines, listen to great music, play games, and meet new people. It was so fun to see the variety of people who went to enjoy the festivities and experience the food and fun of a different culture, or their own culture. I love how OU has so…

small reminders & simple joys

small reminders & simple joys

As part of Brazil week, there was a movie and popcorn night at the OU Bizzell Memorial Library to watch the fun, animated film Rio. The movie begins with the main character, Blu, a baby macaw, getting captured by dealers in Rio de Janeiro and being smuggled to the U.S. The truck that was transporting Blu accidently drops his box on the side of the road, where a girl, Linda, finds him and raises him with nothing but love. The…

The final post of my sweet time abroad in the beautiful country of Australia. Wow. Never thought I’d be here. It’s always strange to me how days can feel long but weeks feel awfully short. Honestly, that is truly what study abroad has felt like: long days but insanely fast weeks. My time in Australia will definitely go down as one of the best seasons of my life. It truly surpassed anything I could have imagined and I will always…

final month in Aus

Can it really be June? My final month is this insanely beautiful country where I have met some of the most amazing people I know. I cannot imagine leaving. Yet, I know that day will come and I will need to be ready to accept it and look forward to my return to Australia. Looking back, I wish I could have told myself in September to apply for a full year. 5 months sounds like a long time, but, by…

weekend fun

This past weekend I went with my buddies Allene, Rhi and Ella to Ella’s home in Avalon – which is part of the northern beaches in Sydney. It is beautiful!! When she told me she is from Sydney I imagined she lived in the city. I didn’t realize that there are places associated as Sydney that are not at all like the big city I’d seen. Her home is so cute and her parents are the absolute sweetest and most…

I went to my first ever festival in Canberra, Australia and boy was it a BLAST! Groovin the Moo is a one day festival filled with big and small bands, food trucks, big smiles, and heaps of people down to dance. I got introduced to many small Australian artists that I really enjoy listening to such as Winston Surfshirt, Vera Blu, and Mallrat. The festival was on a Sunday so a group of us caravanned down on Saturday and stayed…

I had such a wonderful mid-semester break!! This is basically my spring break in Australia. I went and traveled throughout New Zealand with friends and family. My first few days were in Wellington where two of my good friends from OU were studying abroad at Victoria University. They got to show me their homes, introduce me to their friends and roommates, take me to their favorite coffee shops, give me a tour of their campus, and take me to the…

APRIL. Woah.. have I seriously already been here for a little over a month?? It has absolutely flown by. This is such a good reminder to savor every minute here and try to appreciate and acknowledge the small details. Sometimes it’s the little things, not the big trips and crazy adventures (although those are amazing), that can mean so much. So far, school is going very well and I have sort of established a healthy balance between work and play….

ROAD TRIP!!!!!! WOOO! I met up with my two besties from home, Meghan and Rachael, who are studying abroad in Wellington, New Zealand to travel around Australia for a week. It. Was. A. Blast. First, I flew and met them in Cairns where we stayed for a basically a day and a half. When we got there, we immediately checked into our hostel and then split an Uber to a waterfall I’d found when searching for things to do online….
